SI E' RICHIUSO IL BUCO DELL'OZONO!

Il buco dell'ozono artico che aveva preoccupato seriamente per l'estensione e durata senza precedenti, si è finalmente chiuso.

Il Servizio di monitoraggio atmosferico della rete europea Copernicus afferma che il buco dell'ozono artico non si riaprirà malgrado il rafforzamento del vortice polare previsto nei prossimi giorni.

Il "buco dell'ozono dell'emisfero nord del 2020 è sicuramente un evento da record", commenta Antje Iness specificando che la chiusura spontanea senza precedenti del buco nello strato di ozono sopra l'area artica non ha nulla a che vedere con la riduzione dell'inquinamento dovuta alle misure di confinamento per frenare la pandemia di Covid-19 ma è dipeso da altri fattori straordinari.

La chiusura del buco dell'ozono si è resa possibile grazie all' "ondata di calore" che l'Artico ha vissuto in questo ultimo periodo, con temperature fino a 20º C più alte del normale per questo periodo dell'anno, fattore che ha prodotto una disponibilità di energia sufficiente ad innescare le reazioni necessarie alla produzione dell'ozono in stratosfera. Il buco nell'ozono antartico è ai suoi minimi livelli da quando questa anomalia atmosferica, la cui maggior causa fu imputata ai gas refrigeranti CFC, è stata scoperta nel 1985.

La rapida introduzione del divieto all'uso industriale e massivo di questi gas refrigeranti, fu introdotta dal Protocollo di Montreal nel 1987, e si è rivelata particolarmente efficace tanto da aver consentito una riduzione del buco nell'ozono antartico e il graduale ripristino delle correnti atmosferiche nell'emisfero meridionale.
