Alexander Lukashenko detiene la carica di presidente da ben 26 anni.

Erano molti i candidati che si erano proposti per correre alle elezioni di agosto, ma il regime di Lukashenko ha fatto in modo che quasi nessuno giungesse alla candidatura formale.

In reazione alla manovra liberticida, due settimane fa centinaia di bielorussi hanno invaso le strade di Minsk, Brest e altre città del Paese protestando per la mancata registrazione formale dei candidati Viktor Babariko e Valery Tsepkalo, per Lukashenko i più temibili.

Ma ben presto la polizia ha fatto sentire il suo pugno di ferro, con arresti che hanno coinvolto anche 10 giornalisti. C’è un solo candidato rimasto a sfidare il presidente uscente che corre per la sesta volta consecutiva, ed è una donna: Svetlana Tikhanovskaja. Moglie di Sergey Tikhanovsky, noto blogger ed ex candidato, eliminato anche lui dalla tenzone elettorale, ne ha raccolto il testimone e sta portando avanti le speranze di un intero popolo.

Svetlana Tikhanovskaja guida ormai l’opposizione e ha una strategia ben precisa per vincere le elezioni. “Andate a votare nelle ore serali del primo giorno di elezioni”, dice ai suoi sostenitori, e “indossate un braccialetto bianco, simbolo di onestà e purezza”. Incoraggia poi gli osservatori elettorali indipendenti ad insistere per essere ammessi nei seggi elettorali e a filmare se non dovessero esserlo, per testimoniare che le elezioni potrebbero essere manipolate. L’eventuale vittoria dovrà poi essere difesa in tutti i modi, ma sempre “con mezzi pacifici e legali“.

There were many candidates who had proposed to run for the August elections, but the Lukashenko regime made sure that almost nobody came to the formal candidacy.

In response to the liberticidal maneuver, hundreds of Belarusians invaded the streets of Minsk, Brest and other cities of the country two weeks ago, protesting the non-formal registration of candidates Viktor Babariko and Valery Tsepkalo, for Lukashenko the most fearsome.

But the police soon made his fist feel ironic, with arrests involving 10 journalists as well. There is only one candidate left to challenge the outgoing president who runs for the sixth consecutive time, and it is a woman: Svetlana Tikhanovskaja. Svetlana Tikhanovskaja now leads the opposition and has a very specific strategy for winning the elections. "Go and vote in the evening hours of the first day of the election," he says to his supporters, and "wear a white bracelet, a symbol of honesty and purity." He then encourages independent election observers to insist on being admitted to the polling stations and to film if they are not, to testify that the elections could be manipulated. Any victory must then be defended in all ways, but always "by peaceful and legal means".

Muitos candidatos propuseram concorrer às eleições de agosto, mas o regime de Lukashenko garantiu que quase ninguém chegasse à candidatura formal.

Em reação à manobra liberticida, centenas de bielorrussos invadiram as ruas de Minsk, Brest e outras cidades do país há duas semanas, protestando contra o registro não formal dos candidatos Viktor Babariko e Valery Tsepkalo, para Lukashenko, o mais temível.

Mas a polícia logo fez seu punho parecer irônico, com prisões envolvendo 10 jornalistas também. Só resta um candidato para desafiar o presidente cessante que concorre pela sexta vez consecutiva, e é uma mulher: Svetlana Tikhanovskaja. A esposa de Sergey Tikhanovsky, um conhecido blogueiro e ex-candidato, também eliminado da luta eleitoral, assumiu o bastão e está buscando as esperanças de um povo inteiro.

Svetlana Tikhanovskaja agora lidera a oposição e tem uma estratégia muito específica para vencer as eleições. "Vá votar nas primeiras horas da noite do primeiro dia da eleição", diz ele a seus apoiadores, e "use uma pulseira branca, símbolo de honestidade e pureza". Ele então encoraja observadores eleitorais independentes a insistir em serem admitidos nas seções eleitorais e a filmar, se não, a testemunhar que as eleições poderiam ser manipuladas. Qualquer vitória deve ser defendida de todas as formas, mas sempre "por meios pacíficos e legais".

As pessoas que querem a liberdade não conhecem a repressão que a contém.
